Wind Speed Installation

Carefully holding cup assembly by base, mount it on top of mast securing with cotter pin (rough handling of the cup assembly may damage the bearing system.) Attach wires to the two terminals on the base of the generator. Connect wire as in diagram to the two terminals in the rear of the meter in any order (there is no polarity to the wind speed system). Spin the cups and watch the reading change with the speed of the cup wheel.

Wind Direction Installation

Follow instructions on inside cover for installation of mast & wire on roof. Align the “N” scribed on the body of the vane assembly to North as determined by a compass or map to orient the unit correctly. Follow color coding in diagram to attach wires to terminals at rear of the meter as follows: 1.white, 2.black, 3.red, 4.orange, and 5.green. Make sure these connections do not touch each other. Using the AC power supply provided ONLY, attach plug wires to lower two terminals in any order and plug into 110 V only. Spin vane and note readings.

Combination Wind Speed & Wind Direction Installation

Secure the vane assembly with the bent pipe to the 14” straight mast pipe, using the two hose clamps (as in Diag. A). Tighten hose clamps firmly. The pipe has been bent to be precisely perpendicular when the straight pipe is installed perpendicularly at your location. Follow general installation instructions on front for masts and wiring. Carefully holding cup assembly by base, mount it on top of mast securing with cotter pin (rough handling of the cup assembly may damage the bearing system.) Attach wires to the two terminals on the base of the generator.

Mount it on top of mast securing with cotter pin. Align the “N” scribed on the side of vane assembly to North by turning entire mast. When the copper tip of the vane assembly is aligned over the “N”, this will give you a North reading on the meter. Tighten set screws on your mounting device securely. At rear of meter, connect each roof wire to the wind speed terminals in any order (no polarity) (DIAG. B). Wind direction portion is connected in same manner as in DIAG. B. Make sure these connections do not touch each other. Using the AC power supply provided ONLY, attach plug wires to lower two terminals in any order and plug into 110 V only. Spin cups and note wind speed reading: turn vane and watch for proper sequence of lights.

Wind Speed with Gust Installation

Follow the instructions for installing a non -gust unit. In addition to what is provided with a non-gust unit, your box will also contain an AC power supply (if being installed in conjunction with wind direction or multiple units only one power supply will be provided). Surface-mount units (Medallion and Weatherhelm) have the reset button incorporated in the case. If you ordered a surface-mount (Classic) with gust in a Downeaster panel, the reset button has already been installed in the panel. If you intend to install the Classic unit in your wood or wall, a switch with 2’ 2c wire is included. Tthe reset button can be installed by drilling 5/16” diameter hole on side or front of panel if panel is used; or recessing into wall or using switch plate directly on your wall. As in DIAG. A, attach the 2c wire from the roof to the top two terminals on the rear of the gust register unit; in 1002 unit attach the 2c wire from the switch to the two terminals in the upper middle of the meter. At the lower middle, attach the battery backup wires : red wire to the lower left- red (+) terminal and the black wire to the lower right -black (-) terminal. Attach the wires from the power supply to the bottom two terminals on the rear of the meter.

The only polarity is with the battery back up; all other wind speed connections can be in any order. Plug in; spin the cups and watch the reading on the dial change with the speed of the cup wheel. To note the highest gust, spin cup assembly strongly and note reading. The unique memory system will retain that highest gust. Push the button and note it will register that gust on the meter again. To reset, hold the button depressed for a few seconds and the unit will reset to zero. During power outages, the wind speed unit switches to battery back up- be sure to have fresh 9V. batteries installed. In prolonged power outages, two 9v. batteries will last about 24 hours; replace batteries one at a time to continue to store gust.

DO NOT LINK BATTERY BACKUP WITH OTHER BATTERY BACKUPS OR WITH POWER SUPPLY.

Combination Wind Speed & Wind Direction with Gust Installation

Surface-mount (Seafarer, Medallion and Weatherhelm): the gust reset button is incorporated in the brass case. Flush-mount (Classic) in a Downeaster wood panel, the reset button has already been installed in the panel. To install a flush-mount (Classic) unit in your wood or wall, a switch with 2’ 2c wire is included Attach the 2c wire from the switch to the 2 terminals in the upper middle of the meter. The reset button can be installed by drilling 5/16” diam. hole on side or front of panel if panel is used, recessing into wall or using switch plate applied to your wall.

Installation: Attach the two wires from the roof to the top two terminals on rear of the gust register unit; At lower middle, attach the battery backup wires : red wire to lower left- red(+) terminal and the black wire to the lower right -black(-)terminal. Attach the wires from the power supply to the bottom two terminals at rear of meter. The only polarity is with the battery back up; all other wind speed connections can be in any order. For the wind direction portion, attach wires to terminals as follows: 1. white, 2. black, 3. red, 4. orange, and 5. green. Plug in; spin the cups and watch the reading on the dial change with the speed of the cup wheel. To note the highest gust, spin cup assembly strongly and note reading. The unique memory system will retain that highest gust. Push the button and note it will indicate that gust on the meter again.

To reset, hold the button depressed for a few seconds and the unit will reset to zero. During power outages, the wind speed unit switches to battery back up-be sure to have fresh 9V. batteries installed. In prolonged power outages, 2 9v. batteries will last about 24 hours; replace batteries one at a time to continue to store gust.
