Box contents: 1 Rainfall meter, 1 (two pcs.) battery backup,1 complete tipping bucket collector, 1 6V-AC power supply, & 60 feet connecting cable (2c wire), note- model #1050 also has two reset buttons & a toggle switch. BENCH TEST BEFORE INSTALLATION.

Locate the collector on a flat, level surface in an open area with no overhanging obstructions a fence post, sun deck, tree stump, etc. Do not mount on a steel or iron surface. Loosen the screws holding the collector on the base until the collector can be rotated and removed from the base. Mount collector base using the four screws provided. Leave collector off until installation is complete. At the rear of the meter, connect top two terminals to the battery backup- top left terminal: red (positive); top right terminal: black(negative). Run cable from bucket to location of rainfall meter, leaving excess cable intact but out of the way for future relocation. Do not bury cable.

Connect wires from the rain collector to the two lower left terminals in either order (no polarity). Connect power supply wires in either order (no polarity) to bottom right two terminals. Do not plug in until all connections are made. Note model #1050 reset buttons & toggle switch must be installed

Model 3050, 5050, 5550 switches are incorporated in the case. Plug AC power supply into 110V. Tip bucket mechanism located in the Rain Gauge base back and forth. Digital counter should show a reading of 1/100th of an inch (.01 inch) for each tip of the bucket. Place the collector back on the base, line up the screw holes with the screw heads and tighten until snug (do not over tighten). Remove shipping tape from the screen. Bench test operation of complete system.

The unit normally reads current rainfall; the red LED indicates “current”. To reset current rainfall, push in right hand button; the unit will zero. To view annual rainfall, move center switch to left; the red LED will indicate “annual” and the reading will reflect the total rainfall since the annual was last zeroed. To reset annual rainfall, while holding switch to left, press left button. This will zero the annual memory. This should be done at installation to clear any retained false reading when the unit is first powered up.

During power outages the unit will automatically switch itself to battery backup. Have two fresh 9V batteries installed. In prolonged outages the backup batteries will last about three hours with a lit display. When power resumes, the unit will recharge its own batteries. During extended outages you can replace one battery at a time to continue to retain memory. If batteries drain completely the unit will lose its memory. There is no need to drain the collector since it is self-emptying. Freezing weather will not damage the collector; however, readings of snow or freezing rain will be inaccurate.

Every few months check the collector to make sure its strainer is free from obstruction of leaves, pine needles, etc.
