Wind Direction
The
indicator's vane (which points into the direction from which the
wind is blowing) is attached to a shaft and small magnet that pass
by miniature reed switches, which open and close as the magnet affects
them. When these switches are closed, the power passes through and
lights the LED's on your indicator. This tells which direction the
wind is coming from and how it is affecting your location.
Wind Speed
The wind blows the three-cup assembly as fast as the wind can spin it. The cup assembly is attached to a shaft, which supports a magnet. As the shaft turns the magnet, it passes nearby copper coils and generates electricity. The indicator measures the amount of electricity generated, which corresponds to the speed the cup assembly is rotating.
Our exciting Tru-Gust option may be incorporated with the wind speed of any of the above units. Tru-gust may also be added as an add-on accessory to any existing Downeaster wind speed unit. |
